Training for a Hike, Backpacking Trip or Trek?

Whether you’re preparing for a challenging day hike, backpacking trip, multi-day trek, or active adventure, your training should prepare you for what you’ll actually face on the trail.

Online hiking training is built around your specific adventure, current fitness level, experience, and the time you have to prepare. Your program can help you build the strength and endurance you need for elevation gain, carrying a pack, uneven terrain, long days on your feet, and back-to-back hiking days.

Your Training May Focus On:

  • Strength and endurance for hiking
  • Uphill and downhill hiking
  • Elevation gain and climbing
  • Carrying a loaded backpack
  • Balance and stability
  • Long days on the trail
  • Back-to-back hiking days

No mountains nearby? No problem. Your training can include strength training, stairs, treadmill incline, cardio, and the equipment you have available to prepare you for the demands of the trail.

Training Backed by Experience

I’m Cary Davis, a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with a background in strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, endurance sports, and outdoor adventure.

I’ve spent years hiking, backpacking, running, swimming, and training for endurance events. I understand that being fit in the gym doesn’t always mean you’re prepared for a long day on the trail—and that everyone’s goals, experience, and starting point are different.

My approach combines strength, conditioning, and practical training with a program built around you—your goals, your experience, your schedule, and where you want to go.

I have been doing personal training with Cary for over a year now and have nothing but good things to say! She has been very helpful in enabling me to reach my goals of building up my strength and endurance. She’s also great at adapting exercises when you need to work around an existing injury so that you can still exercise without aggravating the injury. She is easy to talk to and really listens, which makes our training sessions fly by! I always look forward to our training sessions together and am thankful to have her to help me continue to reach my fitness goals.

-Elle, T

Cary helped me prepare for my Core Enchantments backpacking trip. It was the experience of a lifetime and it wouldn’t have been possible without Cary’s encouragement and guidance. She was so approachable and non-judgmental throughout, which can be hard to find. Would totally recommend Cary to anyone with an adventurous goal in mind!

Do you offer in-person personal training?

Yes. In-person personal training is available in the Edmonds, Washington, area. If you’re not local, you can work with me through online personal training from virtually anywhere.

Can you help me train for a hiking or backpacking trip?

Yes. Online hiking training can be designed around the specific demands of your trip, including hiking distance, elevation gain, terrain, pack weight, consecutive hiking days, and the amount of time you have to prepare.

How far in advance should I start training for a hiking trip or trek?

It depends on your current fitness level and the difficulty of your trip, but starting several months in advance gives you more time to build strength and endurance. You can adjust your training based on your starting point, trip date, and the demands of your adventure.
